Chakras

Chakras are the energy centres of the body. The word Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘wheel’ or ‘disk’, and each chakra moves with a spinning motion, forming a vortex.

These vortices filter energy from the environment around us and disperse it throughout our body. As everything is energy, even our thoughts can manifest in a positive or negative way in our body.
There are seven major chakras which are continuously interacting with each other.

There are many exercises, meditations and healing techniques that focus on balancing the chakras, which aims to help in removing blockages or imbalances to the natural flow of energy.

BASE CHAKRA – This Chakra focuses on your most basic needs and how well you are taking care of them.
The Base Chakra is located at the perineum (base of the spine). The colour associated with this chakra is red.

SACRAL CHAKRA – This Chakra focuses on your creative experiences. Make it a priority to choose things that will delight you. Things that bring about the most enthusiasm to do and that use your imagination are the best ways to strengthen this chakra.
The Sacral Chakra is located in the lower abdomen. The colour associated with this chakra is orange.

SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA – This Chakra focuses on personal power. In other words, it is having the choice to believe in your actions, without feeling the need to have power over another person or a situation.
It is when we neither seek to overpower others, nor allow others to disempower us, that this chakra is working effectively.
The solar plexus chakra is located just below the navel. The corresponding colour of this chakra is yellow.

HEART CHAKRA – This chakra is concerned with unconditional love. It is all to do with our ability to consider others and be gentle with the expectations we put on ourselves. As unconditional love is a state of being, it is also a conscious decision. Knowing that everything is interconnected can help to achieve unconditional love and to respond in a respectful way to achieve this.
The heart chakra is located at the same level of the heart and the corresponding colour is green.

THROAT CHAKRA – The fifth chakra is all about expression and communication, both verbal and non-verbal.
This chakra is located at the throat but influences the jaw and neck as well. The corresponding colour is blue. It is the bridge between the head and the heart and symbolically it is the link between thought and action.

THIRD EYE CHAKRA – The sixth chakra is where the conscious meets the unconscious, where our imagination and inner ‘sight’ reside. It is located in between the eyebrows and the corresponding colour is Indigo.
When this chakra is out of balance, a person may be too influenced by the psychic realm and may become ‘ungrounded’, disorganised or disoriented, and appear ‘spacey’.

CROWN CHAKRA – This chakra is all about insight, inner knowing and self-realisation. It is the home of our spirituality and our connection to the Divine. The crown chakra is a portal through which the energy enters into the human body and filters down through each chakra. The strength and vitality of this energy reflects their level of personal development.
When this chakra is in balance, this energy brings about the highest level of consciousness, and is an indication that the person has mastered the challenges associated with all other chakras.
